Our Curriculum
Designed to help children realise their potential

Our Core Beliefs
What we will do to help your child
Our committed team of Kaiako is devoted to collaborating with you as whanau. People and partnerships hold utmost importance, as the intentional connections we establish contribute to fostering respectful relationships for all. The relationships forged with you and your child are integral to our mission. By nurturing secure, responsive, and respectful connections, your child gains confidence in their sense of belonging, enabling them to interact confidently with the world. This, in turn, readies them for meaningful play, supporting a disposition for lifelong learning.
“We embrace the intrinsic value of nature, recognizing it as one of our teachers.”

Guided by values such as curiosity, creativity, respectful practice, kindness, and love, our vision places children as active participants in daily routines, rituals, and events. They are seen as pivotal drivers in shaping their own curriculum, actively encouraged to explore, discover, and share their aspirations.
Our foundation is built upon strong relationships (Whanauwhanaunatanga) and respect (Manaakitanga), permeating every aspect of our interactions—whether with each other, resources, or the environment. We recognize the significance of local community connections in fostering a sense of belonging and awareness of the world.
Our Unique Curriculum
What your children will learn at W.L.S
Rooted in a thoughtfully designed, nature-inspired environment with loose parts, our curriculum offers the perfect balance—providing guidance while allowing room for exploration. It serves as a nurturing space for growth, wonder, curiosity, and the sharing of magical journeys.
Aligned with our national curriculum, Te Whāriki, we acknowledge, support, and foster each child’s individual learning journey. The teaching team, armed with knowledge, sensitively supports your child’s development of dispositions, skills, and a mindset for a lifelong journey of learning and discovery.

Recognizing whānau as children’s first teachers, we encourage their role as knowledge sharers, fostering trusting, valued, supportive, and inclusive relationships. Children are empowered to learn through trial and error, repetition, and collaboration with peers, developing a strong sense of self and agency.
Our emphasis on self-regulation and independence equips children to face life’s challenges with competence and capability. We believe in cultivating dispositions of collaboration, resilience, and perseverance that transcend the changing world.
“He purapura i ruia mai i Rangiātea e kore e ngaro.” (A seed sown in Rangiātea will never be lost.)
Te Whāriki and Learning Dispositions
Support and Involvement for all
Learning dispositions, intertwined with the strands of Te Whāriki, manifest as behaviors. We believe that when children express interest, involvement, perseverance, idea expression, and responsibility, they are showcasing a sense of belonging, well-being, exploration, communication, and contribution.
Kaiako’s knowledge of the Strands and Principles within Te Whāriki supports and acknowledges children’s learning over time. Observations based on this framework are used to document children’s evolving dispositions, interests, and strengths, shared with families through narratives, stories, photographs, or videos.

We align with the aspirations for children within Te Whāriki, envisioning them as “competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.”
The Four Principles – serve as the foundation for realizing these aspirations.
- Empowerment (Whakamana)
- Holistic Development (Kotahitanga)
- Family and Community (Whānau Tangata)
- Relationships (Ngā Hononga)
